“Double Down,” America

Posted in Uncategorized by Amy Yannello on April 13, 2010

If you have been in a cave & haven’t seen the latest display of American gluttony, I’ll describe: It’s KFC’s creation of TWO FRIED CHICKEN PATTIES, substituting for the buns, wrapped around TWO PIECES OF BACON & TWO PIECES OF CHEESE.

Oh, and there’s this: It’s as big as your face.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, childhood obesity has more than tripled in more than 30 years.

Is this new sandwich going to help? I thought so. This trending toward the super-size isn’t new, but it’s now gone over the top, and I see it as a deficit in our physical, emotional, and spiritual growth.

I know this makes me sound like a conservative, and a hypocrite, (since I’m addicted to nicotine) — but our entire SOCIETY is in on this way of eating and you and I are being asked to PAY FOR IT in a multitude of ways, every day, from lost days at work, to childhood obesity, to adult-onset diabetes, to heart disease…you name it, you can trace it back to the food we eat and the exercise we DON’T get.

So, reach for that “Double Down” America, and a general serving of Lipitor while you’re at it.

Keep the faith.
