Bunnies & Puppies … Spreading the “happy” news

Posted in Uncategorized by Amy Yannello on April 24, 2010

Well, I guess I’ve been a little dour in my deliverance of the news lately.

And, I guess, I could be writing about bunnies & puppies, and “good people, doing good things” as one long-ago friend suggested I do rather than “tell people about the problems in the world.”

Well, yes, and no.

First off, just because the news is a “bummer” doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be told. Let’s just start with that premise and work from there.

Second, lately, the people who have been the subjects of my articles — primarily the homeless, and those with mental health issues — both populations which have been slayed by budget cuts — are “good people” and they and the people around them are trying and doing “good things.”

Speaking of bunnies & puppies, From the Sacramento County budget document, “The Shelter hours will be reduced to 4 hours a day, 4 days a week providing 30% of the current adoption program and eliminating owner requested euthanasia and the rescue and foster care program. Field Services will be reduced to providing response to the most severe animal issues in the County. The Veterinarian Program will be reduced to providing medical care by private veterinarians. The Volunteer Program will be eliminated.”

Hey, it’s budget season…not many “feel good” stories in the mix.

Until next time,
